RUBÉN DURO PÉREZ
Barcelona (August 7, 1963). Biologist specialized in Zoology by University of Barcelona, 1987. Member of ASECIC (Spanish Association of Scientific Image and Cinema), SEM (Spanish Society for Microbiology) and SCB (Catalan Society of Microbiology).
Popularizer of nature and enviromental themes in the editorial and television fields.
Photographer and director of documentaries on science and natural history. His photographic stock is managed by the international agencies ASA Agency (Madrid, Spain), Science Source (New York, New York, USA) and Biomedia Associates ll.c. (Beaufort, South Carolina, USA). His stock is internationally managed by the agencies Content Mint (Australia; former Absolute Wild Visuals), Science Source (New York, New York, USA) and Biomedia Associates (Beaufort, South Carolina, USA).
Author of several books, the last ones “Biodiversitat invisible” (Natural Sciences Museum of Barcelona and Institute for Catalan Studies) and “Born in a drop” (3.14 Servicios Editoriales, Barcelona).
Author of the photographies and videos of the axhibition “Microlife. Beyond the human eye”, produced by Expogràfic, s.l. The exhibition has been held in CosmoCaixa Madrid (2012–2013), CosmoCaixa Barcelona (2013–2014) y Centrum Nauki Kopernik (Warsaw, Poland, 2014–2015). During this time, has received more than 1 million visitors.
Some of his phorographies had been selected for the itinerant exhibition “Images for Science” (produced by ASECIC, 2014) and the exhibition “International Images for Science” (produced by the Royal Photography Society (UK), 2015).
He provides images for several scientific magazines, among them International Microbiology or Contributions to Science.
Collaborator of several series on Natural History, among them “Broken Silence” (directed by Joaquín Araújo, 1986–1987) or “Water Life” (produced by CINTV, 2009).
Director and producer of series on Natural History for television, such as “Mundos Diminutos” (2007) and “Ven con nosotros” (1998), and of several documentaries broadcasted on different TV channels and screened in several international festivals.
Awarded with the Public Prize to the Best Film at the XXV International Science Film Biennale, held in Ronda (Spain) in 2008, for “Desarrollo del caracol”. Awarded with an Honorable Mention to the Macrocinematography at the 32th Wildlife Film Festival (Montana, USA) in 2009.
Producer of the documentary “Termites. The secret queens of woodlands” (2015) and co-producer of the series “Hidden Biodiversity” with Biomedia Associates ll.c. (Both currently distributed in the US market).
Producer of two shortfilms about microbial life: “Microbial Mats”, for the Barcelona Knowledge Hub of the Academia Europaea (BKH-AE) and the ASM (American Association for Microbiology), May 2015; and “Life from Light–Origin of photosynthesis” for the BKH-AE in association with Ciência Viva (the Portuguese agency for the scientific and technological culture), June 2015.
Producer of several documentaries for different Natural Parks and Spanish museums.
Currently is co-producing the second part of the series “Hidden Biodiversity” with Biomedia Associates, ll.c.
